Geofences
Geofences are used to put virtual boundaries around a specific area. They have lots of uses, such as:
- Alert on exit or entry
- Alert on exit or entry at specific times
- Set a specific speed limit in the area
- Track activity in the area
- Track how long an asset stayed or has been in the area
- Shorten the street address to the Geofence name
- Track specific events in that area
A geofence can be created by right clicking the live map or choosing Geofences from the admin drop down.
Once create is clicked the create Geofence screen will appear. Click on the map to start drawing the geofence, make sure the last dot connects to the first to complete the boundary.
Using the layer button in the top right corner we can switch to satellite view, this often gives a more realistic view of the area we want to geofence. The geofence can be modified by either dragging the nodes or clicking redraw geofence.
Once the geofence has been drawn and named, click save.
A geofence can also be created from a specific trip, this is useful to track simple route deviation. On the trip history map view screen, select the trip you would like to create a geofence from. Then right click the map and choose to create geofence from the trip. You will be asked how wide you would like to make the geofence.
You can now create Alerts and run Reports based on geofences.
To manage created geofences use the geofence page found under the admin drop down.
